Version 2

Chaos Kingdom, named for the very thing it was designed to protect against, is in decline. After 3,000 years of peace, the drums of war sound again. This time, ancient technology is being rediscovered at a staggering rate. Terrible weapons scour the land, and vast armies march across the plains.

It is into this world you arrive, a prince of the land. You must prove that your cause is worthy, draw supporters, and arm yourself. You will need all the luck you can get, for this is Chaos Kingdom.

Reset is scheduled for 12AM EST April 1. Starting in the new round, mercenaries will leave if you do not have the TBG to cover their upkeep.

Bugs, Upgrades, and More, OH MY! - November 16, 2008, 3:40 pm

Bear with me while I redesign the upgrades page, to accomodate the banking stuff below it. I'm also taking suggestions on what its new name should be, since its not purely upgrades anymore.

Bugs! Now with bug squasher! I've redesigned and upgraded the old bug.php and bugview.php, and more changes to come in the next few weeks as I add comment pages to open bugs, and better bug tracking.

Still getting a handle on the stupid AI for the single player, quite a bit still doesn't want to work correctly. Its quite discouraging!

State Of The Site - November 9, 2008, 12:52 pm

Okay, I'm pretty rotten at keeping you guys updated. So I apologize to all ten of you. I figure its about time to say what the heck I've been up to all this time.

First off, the excuses. I recently (in May) moved into a new apartment. Its a lot more work than I'm accustomed to. I also need to work more to keep paying the rent. I also have been thrust into a new position at work that keeps me around more.

That's not to say I haven't been working on the site. I've been chugging along, working on the single player version I promised a year ago, and its almost to a usable state. I'm actually quite proud of it. The AI is a little buggy, and hasn't even been implemented into the live build. I'm also busy changing it to a sprite system, instead of one giant image as the background. This should add a little more detail and control to it, and allow variable sized maps to play on. After I get the AI integrated, which should be no more than a week or two, I'll open the one level I have up to testing for you. IT WILL BREAK, GUARANTEED. I expect this, and I'll need a few people to help out with tracking the bugs down. Following this test, I will begin work on a tool for me to create maps a lot easier. This shouldn't be terribly difficult, and should speed up new content additions. Doing it by hand sucks.

So, thats about where things are. I think I'm going to redo a few things in the backend to fix some glaring issues, but one project at a time. We're almost ready to start a recruiting drive, to coincide with the new year. Hopefully, the technical issues will be fixed enough for me to work on the story and other goodies.

This is a bit of a testing round to shake out the bugs caused by the code reboot. In the coming days, I will be rolling out a bugtracker, as well as a better changelog system. Also, banking, alliances, and single player mode are not active. Banking is scheduled to arrive Weds, April 16, and alliances will be sometime in the following week. Single player mode has no estimated arrival time, it has been running behind schedule.

The wiki is up, and somewhat populated with articles. If you have a question about a new feature, weapon, or soldier, consult the wiki.

DDL - January 19, 2008, 12:00 am

DDL, the recruiter for KoC, is hosted on this server. The user load with KoC age9 has DEADED the server. I am in the process of upgrading it, but it could be up to a week.




Title - December 8, 2007, 12:00 am

I changed a few things tonight, since we're losing the pair of servers we were hosted on since Sept 2005 and we needed to move off of them. No worries, we still have the server I bought!

Version 2 is NOT active, but I added a bunch of code from v2 to stem the flow of bugs. Maybe. But I really probably just introduced more.

Version 2 Update - November 25, 2007, 12:00 am

First off, a quick recap of my situation. I am 22, dealing with two jobs (three if you count this!), and am also taking 3 classes a week at college. I also am dating the most wonderful girl in the universe, but thats besides the point. During the summer months, that drops to ONE job, and no college. I based my projected version 2 release date on my summertime progress, which is far faster than I can achieve currently, meaning that my progress has slipped slowly behind schedule.

Furthermore, I am taking a vacation. Specifically, I am going with my family on a cruise during Christmas, then flying back home, meeting up with my girlfriend, and flying with her off to Las Vegas for a week or so. No, we are not planning to get married (okay, maybe we will get married by Elvis, but not for reals!), but it is some much needed relaxation time for the both of us.

Anyhow, that means that a) I will be on a boat when the game is set to reset and roll to version 2. This means that I cannot fix any problems that will inevitably arise until the middle of January, and also b) I cannot even move the scripts from their current location to the webserver.

So, I will implement the version 2 changes in the BACKEND, without implementing any visible changes. Then, come March, when the BACKEND is thoroughly tested, version 2 will start for real.

Changes made in version 2 recently:

  • Session handling has changed! You cannot have more than one account logged on at the same IP address. You cannot have more than one person logged into an account at the same time.
  • Logging is more in-depth. If you are cheating, we will now have the tools to catch you. Injections, feeder accounts, autobuyers all show up now. Some bans are automated, and some simply catch a passing Mods attention.
  • Game engine is cleaned up, performance increases of 3 fewer queries per page, and CPU load decrease.

Changelog - October 13, 2007, 12:00 am

As version 2 creeps along, I ought to publish a few of the major changes:

* The Truth have assumed their role as defenders as suggested by lore. The Crusader is a city-based artillery used for destroying invading armies.
* 52 new weapons, and a few familiar names.
* Gornya have new names for all weapons.
* A new statistics system. You will have a CONSISTENT stat for all of the powers now.
* A new class of weapons, and a new resource (Powercores).
* 4 new mercenary bands have joined the fight! They will demand payment for their services, however.
* Single player missions unlock new resources and upgrades, as well as new weapons technologies.
* A major facelift and new skinning system. Upload your own custom style for the site.

Also slated to arrive are a new alliance system for forming one massive combined attack force, a trade system, and more!
